While thousands of us Pakistanis here have email access in our businesses or even at home, it is MUCH more expensive and difficult to have all our families become PC plus modem plus phone owners to get email access. Even if they did it would be affordable only to those that had local or closeby node numbers eg Karachi, Lahore, etc.
To overcome this problem and to make the fruits of technology available to any one in Pakistan regardless of their technical expertise or financial strength, we started POST-PAK, a POSTAL email server for sending postal email *TO* Pakistan.
Users here send email to a standard internet address from their terminal or computer. This EMAIL is gated to a terminal in Lahore where it is printed, put in an envelope and sent by OVERNIGHT mail so that your letter actually reaches your family the very next day for a FRACTION of sending by courier (or even by fax).
The biggest advantage is that any person in any city in Pakistan can get this email in printed form without having to spend a paisa on technology.
The rate is $2 for a 2000 character message, which is printed and sent by UMS to any part of Pakistan. People generally find it easier to deposit $10-20 in advance as a credit with us (US$ in USA on US based bank). This sets up your email address with a credit. $2 is deducted from this every time you use the service per 2000 characters.
